1984 Stars-In-MotionIron Man Trophy winners in 1996 and 2006, New Hope Gymnastics (that's two words: "New" and "Hope") is proud to be the host gym of the So Cal 2008 Men’s State Gymnastics Championship. Located at the heart of Orange County in Fountain Valley, California, the gym is housed in a 17,500 sq. ft. building with a 40-foot ceiling, originally built to host Olympic events during the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games. The original Olympic Rings and "Star-In-Motion" logos still remain on the walls of the gym, keeping the Olympic Spirit alive amidst our athletes. The gym is centrally located in Southern California, bringing in Boys Team members from the distant reaches of Simi Valley, Rancho Cucumonga, and Riverside — athletes who are proud to call this gym "home" three to five days a week. Our spectator area features comfortable theater-style seating, complimentary coffee, and free wireless Internet access.

New Hope Gymnastics: Boys Program

The New Hope Gymnastics Boys Team is led by coaches Guonian Wu, Scott Picquelle, and Russell Gleason. Head Coach Guonian Wu competed as a member of the Chinese National Team from 1979 to 1983, where he won numerous titles on Floor, Pommel Horse, and Vault at national and international competitions. He originated one of the most difficult skills on the Pommel Horse (named the "Wu Guonian" by the Federation of International Gymnastics), which possesses a difficulty level of "E." Coach Guonian later originated another skill on Floor (also named the "Wu Guonian", with an FIG difficulty level of "D"), thus developing skills on two different events which bear his name.

As a head coach Guonian has several Iron Man titles under his belt from the So Cal State Championships (2006, 2003, 2002, 2001). Since 2002, Guonian has been a member of the U.S. Junior National Team coaching staff. As head coach of the 2004 U.S. Junior Men's Gymnastics Team, the team won the title at the Pan American Games in El Salvador.

Coach Scott Picquelle was a 3-time All-American gymnast. While at Long Beach City College, he was a 2-time California State Champion and a 2-time NJCAA Champion. After moving on to Cal State Fullerton, he became a 2-time Pacific Coast Division Champion and an NCAA Division I National Champion.

Coach Scott knows how to motivate his athletes, and has had great success in getting his athletes to achieve. Having produced 32 All-Star Team members, Scott was named a So Cal All-Star Team coach 9 times. Scott has trained 17 Regional Champions and has won over 75 Team competitions, while producing numerous champions at the Conference and State levels.

At the heart of New Hope's Boys Academy and Developmental Teams is coach Russell Gleason. Possessing degrees in both Mathematics and Physics from Cal State Fullerton (and pursuing his Master's), Russell aspires to be the "smartest" coach out on the floor. Once a competitive gymnast for New Hope, Russell is a former State and Regional Champion.

As our Level 4 and 5 Coach for the past two seasons, Russell coaches our Level 4 Boys Team this year, and with the acquisition of coach Scott Picquelle, he is now able to focus on training New Hope's Developmental Teams.
