Meet the Director

Your State Championship Meet Director this year is Mr. Paul Tickenoff. Paul is currently the President of the Southern California Gymnastics Judges Association. First certified as a high school gymnastics judge in 1968, Paul became certified as a National judge in 1972. He received his certification as an International judge (FIG) in 1980. Since 1987 Paul has been serving as Region 1's Junior Olympic Technical Director. In 1995 the National Gymnastics Judges Association (NGJA) selected Paul Tickenoff as Regional Judge of the Year. Paul has served as Southern California Gymnastics Judges Association's President since 1995.

Before he began judging competitions, Paul Tickenoff had a promising career as a world-class gymnast. As an NCAA Champion and All-American, Paul was ranked the #2 gymnast for two years in International Gymnast Magazine's national poll. He qualified for the Olympic Team trials in 1968, but was not able to attend the trials when he was drafted by the US Army. He had another opportunity to make the Olympic Team in 1972 when he was the 2nd place ranked qualifier, but through another unfortunate turn of events, he was forced to withdraw from the Olympic trials due to injury.

Paul Tickenoff has been involved in the sport of gymnastics in many capacities -- as a competitive athlete, judging official, program director, gym owner, and association officer. With the wealth of experience that Paul is able to bring to this event, the SCMGA is proud to have Paul Tickenoff serve as this year's State Meet Director. In addition, Paul will also be serving as the Meet Referee during this year's State Championship.
